Readings
There is a mandatory reading for each week. Read the paper and be prepared to discuss it in class. You will be quizzed about the paper in class and during the midterm or final exam.
Ethics, Law, and University Policies
To defend a system, you need to be able to think like an attacker, including understanding techniques that can compromise security. Using those techniques in the real world may violate the law or university rules, and may be unethical. Respect the privacy and property rights of others at all times.
Carefully read the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. The EFF provides helpful advice on vulnerability reporting and other legal matters.
Review the Division of Information Technology policies and the code of student responsibility.
Student Accessibility Support Center
Students who may need accommodations should contact the Student Accessibility Support Center, Stony Brook Union Suite 107, (631) 632-6748, or sasc@stonybrook.edu.
Critical Incident Management
Stony Brook University expects students to respect the rights, privileges, and property of others. Disruptive behavior that interrupts teaching, compromises safety, or inhibits learning may be reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
